The Benefits of Temporary Storage Pods
No one had even heard of temporary storage pods a few decades ago, but they’ve since earned their rightful place among moving services by providing an option that falls somewhere between full-service and do-it-yourself moving. They’ve done this by allowing people who are moving to pack storage units themselves and have the actual moving of them handled by professionals. But pods aren’t just for moving; they also provide temporary storage for household items during construction, when organizing for major estate or garage sales, or when you need to de-clutter so you can stage a home for sale. Businesses use them, too, because they’re an ideal short- or long-term solution for storing seasonal or special event items, excess inventory or even documentation.
The term “pod” seems like it might have come about because temporary storage pods are pod-like in that they keep your belongings in free-standing units that can be put virtually anywhere. But the term actually originated as an acronym for “portable on-demand storage,” which is an apt description of how they function. They give you the ultimate in flexibility, because they’re delivered to your location and can be packed at your leisure. This flexibility can be a huge benefit when organizing your belongings. By taking boxes and other items out to the pod as you pack them, you can get them out of the way while still keeping them where they can be easily accessed if you need them. The flexibility of these handy units is increased by the fact that they can sit at your location as long as you need them and can either be delivered to your new home or another destination, or be stored in the pod company’s warehouse for a fee comparable to that paid for regular storage. This allows you to dictate where your belongings will be and for how long.
There is one caveat, however: the ability to use temporary storage pods is based on where you live. Because pods are delivered by special vehicles designed to carry, load and unload the units, your property has to meet certain criteria. Trees branches, bridges and other obstructions must have enough vertical clearance to allow the delivery vehicle to pass, and there also has to be enough room to maneuver the delivery truck and the pod into the space you want it to occupy. But if you can meet the delivery and pick-up criteria, a temporary storage pod could be a great solution for your next move or for any time you need extra storage for household or business items.
